The Purple Way of Biofouling Control

The Purple Way of
Biofouling Control

Clorel® Onsite Seawater ElectroChlorination Technology’s signature purple is more than a color – it represents engineering precision, long-term performance, and innovation shaping the future of the marine applications.

Next-Generation Biofouling Control

The most critical factor for achieving 100% biofouling control is continuous chlorine dosing which not only eliminates existing biofouling but also prevents the re-formation. And, the most efficient way to ensure uninterrupted dosing is through on-site chlorine generation.

Produce Your Own Chlorine in Your Own Place!

Clorel® is reliable Seawater ElectroChlorination technology that allows you to produce and dose your own chlorine (NaOCl) in your own place. Onsite production means not only continuous dosing, but also constant defense against biofouling!

Clorel needs only Seawater and Electricity.

Imagine having your own chlorine using nothing more than seawater. Forget about the need for large shipments of commercial chemicals, the hassles of handling and storage. Clorel® produces Sodium Hypochlorite (NaOCl) simply by electrolyzing seawater.

Clorel® is designed to produce at the point of consumption.

Since Clorel® produces low-concentration chlorine suitable only for on-site consumption and not for transportation, it is installed at the chlorine consumption point with all equipment and instruments.

Huge Savings
in the Fight Against Biofouling

Clorel® not only significantly reduces your direct chemical costs, but also eliminates indirect operational costs such as reductions in production capacity, scheduled and unscheduled shutdowns for biofouling removal, energy and process-efficiency losses associated with biofouling accumulation.

GO ZERO CO2

According to global transport emissions in 2018, heavy-duty road transport was responsible for 30% of total CO2 emissions, amounting to 8 billion tonnes. With Clorel®, no Chlorine Shipments, no Transport-related Carbon Footprint! By generating chlorine onsite using only seawater and electricity, you eliminate totally carbon emissions of chemical transportation.

Transportation-Related Carbon Emissions for an Annual 100-Ton Chlorine Requirement

Chlorine Gas

9,5 ton CO2

Transporting chlorine gas may seem lighter than liquid NaOCl, but the empty cylinders must be sent back for refilling. This extra round-trip doubles the transportation-related carbon footprint. Onsite generation eliminates both delivery and return logistics, cutting emissions dramatically.

Commercial Sodium Hypochlorite

15,5 ton CO2

Liquid sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) typically contains only ~15% active chlorine – the rest is water. Transporting it means moving a huge amount of water, which dramatically increases carbon emissions. Onsite electrochlorination eliminates the need for chemical deliveries, cutting CO2 and logistics impact almost entirely.

Onsite Sodium Hypochlorite

0 kg CO2

Since Clorel® produces Sodium hypochlorite by using only seawater and electricity, there is no need any chemical purchasing. Thus, the carbon-emissions of the tonnes of chemicals transportation can be eliminated.

Safe Plant
Safe People

Seawater electrochlorination is widely regarded as a safer and more efficient alternative to the use of commercially purchased chlorine for biofouling control.

One of its key safety advantages lies in the elimination of hazardous chlorine gas storage and transportation, which are associated with significant risks of leaks, explosions, and toxic exposure. Instead, electrochlorination systems generate sodium hypochlorite on-site using only seawater and electricity, producing a low-concentration disinfectant solution that is far less dangerous to handle.

This greatly reduces the risk of accidents for operators and surrounding environments. Additionally, because the system operates in a closed loop and requires minimal chemical handling, it enhances workplace safety and regulatory compliance. These benefits make electrochlorination especially attractive in sensitive applications such as offshore platforms, power plants, and coastal desalination facilities.
